Grille Cloth Installation Instructions
Some tips for cloth installation, which we have found work best for us:
1) Mist the face of the cloth with a light spray of water, wet enough, but not soaked.
2) Sand all the old glue off the speaker board and wipe it clean. Check for any edges that may snag or puncture the cloth. Making sure the board is clean, lay the cloth out over the board , as a test run of the installation, lining up your corners and edges.
3) Then using 3M Super 77 spray adhesive, spray only about one half inch of the outer edges of the speaker board face, and on the outer edges.
(Including the thickness edge, as you will eventually fold the cloth over for extra stretching hold.)
You do not want to spray glue in the field or any areas other than the edges, as it will hinder you as you stretch the cloth straight. You want the cloth to be completely free in the field.
4) This new cloth is cut perfectly square. Leaving about one quarter inch over the edge,.. line up the top left corner, gently stretching the top edge. Then after checking the pattern is running parallel with the side edges, stretch the cloth gently , straight down to both bottom corners, folding the edges over as you did the top. Then carefully watching your pattern lines once again, stretch the cloth from side to side, gently applying the same amount of tension to each.
5) Using your thumbs work the cloth downward along the thickness edge evenly, all around the edge, stretching it until it is fairly tight.
6) Let the glue set up about 30 minutes, then trim the excess cloth.
As the cloth drys it will shrink, reducing any wrinkles that may be left.
